This briefing paper is comprised of two parts. The first part addresses the existing institutional arrangement under both the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (the “Convention”) and the Kyoto Protocol. It includes simplified organisation charts. The second part addresses possible future institutions, as proposed in the current negotiation rounds. For more detailed information on the institutions and their make-up, please refer to the table in Annex I. For more detailed information on the proposed institutions, pleas refer to the table in Annex II.
