Written by LRI Liaison Officers Subhi Barakat and Sarah Jones, this briefing paper offers a clear and concise overview of the notion of Nationally Determined Contributions (LDCs), based on the main legal issues raised at ADP’s March 2014 session in Bonn.

Following a brief account on how talks around NDCs have progressed over the course of different COP meetings, the briefing summarises different Parties’ interpretations of the scope of NDCs and the existing divergences around the application of the principle of ‘differentiation’.

The briefing also talks about the information that each Party will need to put forward in support of their respective NDCs, and mentions Parties’ considerations about transparency, accounting and compliance reviews.
